HOSTS/HOSTESSES

The hosts and hostesses help welcome visitors to the museum and carry out supportive activities on behalf of our public education and visitor support programmes.

Responsibilities:

Public

  • Receiving, welcoming and guiding visitors and groups;
  • Selling tickets and items from the shop and recording sold items;
  • Informing and instructing visitors about the use of the cloakroom, the museum plan and the itinerary.
  • Knowledge of the museum’s activities and exhibitions, as well as more general information, and being able to inform visitors in broad outline;
  • Answering visitor questions and assisting them with practical problems;
  • Assisting disabled visitors;
  • Supervising the several rooms in the museum and telling visitors that their behaviour is disrespectful if neccesairy.

Skills and experience

  • Experience in a service-oriented environment such as the catering sector, tourism, retail or art and cultural institutions; 
  • A good command of spoken and written Dutch;
  • A command of spoken English;
  • A service-minded and customer-oriented approach and attitude;
  • Communications and interpersonal skills; 
  • A good personal appearance and a good physical condition;
  • The ability to cope with stress and a team-player attitude;
  • An affinity with the focus areas of the museum;
  • Being available at least half a day or a full day a week;
  • Living in Greater Amsterdam;

HOSTS/HOSTESSES CAFÉ

The hosts and hostesses provide refreshments and ensure that visitors of the museum café receive a warm welcome.

Responsibilities:

Public

  • Receiving, welcoming and guiding visitors and groups;
  • Taking customer orders and preparing and serving them;
  • Collecting payments and registering them;
  • Knowledge of the museum’s activities and exhibitions, as well as more general information, and being able to inform visitors in broad outline;
  • Answering visitor questions and assisting them with practical problems;
  • Assisting disabled visitors;
  • Supervising the several rooms in the museum and telling visitors that their behaviour is disrespectful

COMMUNICATIONS VOLUNTEER

The Embassy of the Free Mind aims to share its activities, knowledge and parts from its collection on social media and on the website in the context of the ‘Hermetically Open’  project.

Responsibilities:

Social Media

  • Writing posts and selecting images;
  • Covering events;
  • Editing photos and video recordings (preferred).

Skills and requirements

  • A good command of spoken and written Dutch;
  • A command of spoken and written English;
  • A service-minded and customer-oriented approach and attitude;
  • Communications and interpersonal skills; 
  • A good personal appearance and a good physical condition;
  • The ability to cope with stress and a team-player attitude;
  • An affinity with the focus areas of the museum;
  • Being available at least half a day or a full day a week;
  • Living in Greater Amsterdam. 

Volunteers receive a discount in our museum shop and free admission to the museum.
